Cambodian Child

I drew this late last night/early morning, then popped it into a mat and frame and brought it to church today. It was in a display for Frontline For Justice. Frontline tries to help in getting children as well as adults out of the slave industry. Seattle is one of the ports for slave and sex trafficking. My church also supports efforts in Cambodia to free those who are enslaved. I heard last night that the police in some regions actually sexually abuse children instead of helping to solve the problem. God is doing amazing things in Cambodia! Stay tuned.

Art Lesson Day

I had such a nice time giving a new student art lessons today. Kylie is a natural artist, and I pray I will be of help to spur her on in her growth. She has so much potential; it is exciting to see! We did some drawing and some painting. I am posting my painting/watercolor sketch. I don't have my camera at home, so I'll have to use the flip to capture something:-) It is a happy Saturday when I am making or teaching art!

Three Trees

I am beginning a new watercolor with three trees and five birds. I hope to have leaves slowly transform into the birds. I'm still brainstorming and praying through the idea. It is for Good Friday, and I am trying to convey the idea that Jesus' sacrifice brought forth great joy and God's glory.

I was thankful to get my homework done tonight for Perspectives AND begin a watercolor. I am also thankful it is Saturday tomorrow so I can sleep in a bit! More work on this piece tomorrow!

I am really looking forward to the missions conference this weekend, and I need to frame a drawing first thing tomorrow for the conference. I will try to post the framed work tomorrow. It will be with the Frontline for Justice display.

Perspectives Class Drawing

I left my camera at school, so I snatched a frame from my flip video for this picture of my sketch for the eveing. Maybe I will post a better one when I find my camera:-) Still making art every day.  I listened to a very interesting speaker tonight who loves people far from here. He was very thought-provoking. So tired tonight....

Painting dandelions - Children's Art

It is so much making art with children. I used the permanent marker trick for them to really have their shapes stand out. I came home and put watercolor on mine. Blessings all!

Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that even Solomon in all of his glory did not clothe himself like one of these. But if God so arrays the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more do so for you, O men of little faith? - Jesus the Messiah

In the Style of Eric Carle

My first graders made beautiful birds in the style of Eric Carle. It was during their art docent time, so I sat and made one as well. They had lots of fun, and I think they really understood the work involved in illustrating children's books like Eric Carle's work. This one is mine; I brought it home and put watercolor on the sky area. The rest is done with tissue paper and watered down glue. Fun!

Good Friday Study

Well, does anyone really want to see Jesus dying on a cross in art? I thought, when I first became a Christian, that I couldn't be an artist anymore. I just did not want to draw and paint crosses and that sort of thing. I was trying to balance art and my new faith in Jesus,  and I could not do it. Maybe it's just that I/we struggle with Jesus dying. It's just hard to believe that God would die for me. Would love me that much. Now, I do believe it with thanksgiving. Big thanksgiving. I still wonder how to portray His redemption, His sacrifice in my art without confronting people with the cross. His dying is central in satisfying God's holiness. Jesus dying on the cross is not like painting Italian plums.
