I had a terrific time watching The Great Divorce put on by the Taproot Players in Seattle tonight. My former small group had a reunion, at least some of us, and we really had fun together. I started the evening sketching a man's face taken from a photo on the back of the playbill. I liked his eyes, and how he was looking a bit suspect of what is going on. I thought I might be able to use this face in a painting. A nice way to study eyes and a look. This post will be up really late Friday night, so it is not my Saturday drawing. I hope to sketch out my painting for Good Friday on Saturday.Hell is a state of mind — ye never said a truer word. And every state of mind, left to itself, every shutting up of the creature within the dungeon of its own mind — is, in the end, Hell. But Heaven is not a state of mind. Heaven is reality itself. All that is fully real is Heavenly. For all that can be shaken will be shaken and only the unshakable remains. – p. 65 The Great Divorce
That’s what we all find when we reach this country. We’ve all been wrong! That’s the great joke! There’s no need to go on pretending one was right! After that we begin living. – p. 95 The Great Divorce
