Snow? How about Italy?

It's Friday with snow forecasted for tonight 500 feet and above. Cold, wet, dark autumn snow. A first grader and I were talking on the way in from recess today. Her name is Eleanor and she is a very special, joyful girl. She said summer was her favorite season. I immediately said, "Yes, summer in Italy." It just popped right out of my mouth, totally unplanned. Of course, Italy is my favorite spot in summer, but I am certain it is great anytime of the year.

So, in the spirit of summer in Italy, I am going to try to add some pink to my watercolor I started yesterday. Pink is such a happy color. Especially hot pink. My daughter, Annie, always tells me to wear colors that "pop" like hot pink. (She is part Italian.) Hmmm, I don't do it often, but maybe I should reconsider. At least I have really beautiful shoes from Italy. They pop. OK....onto painting.

  1. Well, Marcia. When we lived in Lugano, a good friend facilitated a writing workshop. Maggie had us pick out from dozens of crayons, a color that would describe a good friend. I picked you as my good friend and then chose "carnation pink" to describe you and all of your pinkness. The clarity of that pink, wiht all of thoe undertones and lightness is you, Marsh. I love your blog, thank you for your words in illustration and thought. al
