Thanksgiving and transformer grandsons

Caleb, my two year old grandson, has this sense that he is invincible. Being hugely powerful, affords him the opportunity to believe he is the "Bumblebee Transformer". I found out today, our day of thanks, that Bumblebee transformers do not cook, nor do they eat s'mores, nor do they eat or go to the bathroom when they are fighting the bad guys. They are focused. All this information has been garnered from a two year old authority on the transformer world shortly before a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.

It made me think about how confident he is when he knows he is the Bumblebee. He really likes us to think he is the Bumblebee, and he'd prefer if we address him as Bumblebee. By so identifying with the Bumblebee, good transformer, he feels empowered. He shoots fire from his hands at his enemies. Boy, I'd like to think of that example and be so identified with Jesus when I need empowerment over evil. And be confident in all Jesus is in and through me.

Caleb also has a really clear sense of good guys and bad guys. In the adult world this often gets muddied as we mature and accept that everyone has good and bad. Welcome to the human race. We can't be quite so confident that someone is the bad guy, except for Hitler or someone we can equally agree upon. As followers of Jesus, we can extend grace to one another. Forgiveness.

However, we all do have an enemy, a bad guy, an enemy of our souls and the classical painters did not shy away from painting him. I am going to try a sketch working off an old painting. In honor of Caleb the Bumblebee Transformer.
